What is a TAN number?
A Revenue Trader Account Number (TAN) is a number provided by Revenue that acts as a secure channel through which you can make payments, for example, pay import duties.
Who needs one?
The account is used by businesses for making secure payments such an import duties. An importer must set up a Trader Account Number account in order to pay duties, VAT, Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) or excise duty. Even in the case that duty is at zero on imported goods a trader must still set up a TAN account. This is in the occurrence of an audit where a payment must be made retrospectively.
How do I get one?
Once you are registered for an Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number here, you will be assigned a Revenue Trader Account Number (TAN).
How do I locate it?
To locate your TAN number please follow these steps:
Step 1: Open a Browser & go to www.ros.ie
Step 2: Select applicable Certificate from ‘ROS Secure Login’ dropdown, Enter Password & click ‘Login to ROS’ button
How do I top up my TAN account?
The easiest way to top up your TAN account is using revenue’s RevPay. This is a digital platform which the trader can use to input their credit/debit card details into RevPay, and they can make a transfer to their TAN account. This payment method allows an instant transfer of funds to your TAN account.
